Saria Rate Trends

The steel industry has announced a significant price hike for steel rebar, driven by two key factors:

Firstly, a 25% increase in power tariffs has raised production costs, and secondly, the devaluation of the Pakistani rupee has made imports more expensive.

Steel rebar prices jump, hitting construction hard

These factors push steel rebar prices higher. The price hike hurts construction and other industries that need this key material.

Currently, steel rebar costs between Rs 15,000 and Rs 18,000 per ton. The Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers explains why: Steel makers need huge amounts of power. Power costs come right after raw materials and scrap. Now, these costs will rise sharply.

Next, buyers will see higher prices immediately. The steel industry cannot handle this big increase alone.

At the same time, the falling Pakistani rupee makes things worse. The weak currency raises import costs for raw materials. Prices have already climbed by Rs. 7,000 per ton. As the rupee keeps losing value, steel makers face even tougher challenges.
